What to bring?
Non-urgent appointments are usually made weeks or sometimes months in advance. Urgent appointments are given determined by the seriousness of the condition. Your doctor can liaise with Dr Doudle if necessary.
Please ring if you are unable to keep your appointment. Late cancellations or failure to attend appointments mean other patients waiting for an appointment cannot be seen earlier. Occasionally, some patients have complex problems and take longer than the expected time to consult. We apologise for any delay you may experience.
We ask that you arrive on time. We understand your time is valuable so Dr Doudle does his best to run on time. If you are late, other patients may be inconvenienced and if you arrive after your scheduled appointment, Dr Doudle may not be able to see you. New patients are asked to arrive 10 - 15 minutes early so your details and results can be recorded and be ready for review by Dr Doudle. If timing is critical to you, please ring to check that we are running on time.
What to expect
Dr Doudle will discuss your condition and will usually perform an examination, including a rectal examination. No preparation is usually required, unless arranged.
DVA Patients
Please let Dr Doudle's staff know if you require DVA transport for your appointment. They are happy to arrange this for you and will telephone for a DVA car to take you home after your consultation.
Dr Doudle is not a bulk-billing specialist and payment on the day of your consultation is required. For your convenience, our staff can lodge your account directly with Medicare Australia and the rebate will be paid directly to you.

Medicare Australia has introduced changes to colonoscopy funding and some patients may no longer be eligible (including those with private health insurance). Please speak to our staff for more information and whether this change affects you.
Colonoscopy is a day surgery procedure performed in hospital. You will receive your bowel preparation kit*, admission and fasting times and other instructions at your consultation or after your colonoscopy is confirmed.

You will need someone to take you home after your colonoscopy and you should not drive or work until at least the following day.
Dr Doudle is registered with many health funds to participate in their "no-gap" scheme. If your health fund is one of these funds, Dr Doudle will bill them directly for this procedure and you incur no "out-of-pocket" expenses. (You must be a financial member and eligible for gapcover for the account to be paid in full. Health fund exclusions and excesses may apply)

Morning Colonoscopy Preparation Instructions Afternoon Colonoscopy Preparation InstructionsMost patients are admitted to the hospital on the day of surgery. Admission and fasting times will be given to you by Dr Doudle or his staff.
Patients having anorectal or colonic surgery may require some form of bowel preparation. This may involve an oral bowel preparation and is usually taken the day before your surgery. Some procedures require an enema and this will be given on admission to hospital.
Most surgical procedures will incur some out-of-pocket expenses. Where time permits, you will be sent an Estimate of Medical Fees outlining Dr Doudle's charges for your surgery. Payment is required before surgery with any balance due within 4 weeks. If you have any questions or concerns about your account, please discuss this with Dr Doudle or his staff before surgery.
If you undergo day surgery, you will need someone to take you home after your surgery and you should not drive or work until at least the following day. Dr Doudle will advise restrictions for other procedures.
Patients taking anticoagulant medications (eg ASPIRIN, WARFARIN, PRADAXA, XARELTO, ELIQUIS, PLAVIX) may need to stop these prior to surgery. Also diabetic (INSULIN, FORXIGA, MEDFORMIN, JARDIANCE), arthritis and iron medications may also need to be ceased. Fish Oil tablets need to be stopped. Instructions will be provided and may vary with individual circumstances.
